Bilbao Night Marathon

Bilbao Night Marathon

On October 20, Bilbao Night Marathon will celebrate its fourth year after the huge success in the past three editions. This is the only popular night-time marathon in Europe and is included in the official calendar of Spain's athletics federation. The race is part of the City’s efforts to make Bilbao a benchmark for sporting events that generate economic activity and energize the city.

The night-time marathon is a combination of sport and fun, offering everybody the possibility to participate and experience the city in a different way. The event consists of three different races: a 42 km marathon for professional athletes and amateur marathon runners; two 21 km races (half marathon); and a 7 km fun walk, known as ‘Carrera Pirata,’ or Pirate Race, aimed at the general public.

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao will once again be the perfect stage for the start and finish line. Both the pre-race area and the course itself show that the Bilbao Night Marathon has become part of the life of the city and has integrated some of its public spaces and most emblematic landmarks. The race is also a favorite among the local community, as seen by the number of local runners and by the people that line the streets to watch the event.

Anyone over the age of 16 is welcome to join in on the Bilbao Night Marathon. Participants may register online beginning 10 July at
