The bicentenary of the Battle of Vitoria

The bicentenary of the Battle of Vitoria

Álava's capital city will commemorate the bicentenary of the Battle of Vitoria this year. This important clash was one of the final battles that took place in 1813 in the War of Independence.

A wide range of activities have been organised in commemoration of this anniversary. Not to be missed are the guided tours around the battlefield (9th, 16th and 23rd June). There will also be talks and guided tours for schoolchildren. In October, meanwhile, a series of conferences discussing the bicentenary will be held.

The Arms Museum will be open for visitors, and boasts an important collection of artefacts from the battle. There will also be a Napoleonic itinerary, which is marked out by a series of plaques highlighting place of interests from the period of French occupation.

The activities are being run by the Vitoria Historical Association 2013, with the aim of reminding Álava's citizens, as well as visitors to Vitoria, about this historical event.
