A talk by Álvaro Rodríguez Fominaya, Director of the Castile-León Museum of Contemporary Art (MUSAC), on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Antoni Tàpies.

In this talk, Rodríguez Fominaya will unravel the keys to the Tàpies universe by analyzing the artist’s connection to the objects that were part of his work, as well as the connections between these objects and his paintings. With this activity, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao joins the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Catalan artist, who first established ties with the Guggenheim Museums in 1962, when the Guggenheim in New York organized a solo exhibition for him, and culminated in the retrospective Antoni Tàpies. From Object to Sculpture (1964–2009), held at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in 2013–14, curated by Rodríguez Fominaya himself.
