Journeys Through Contemporary Art: Current readings around the Museum Collection Guggenheim Bilbao

Continuing with the Approaching Art course series, the sixth course is a non-academic introduction for those who want to get basic knowledge and references in contemporary art.

The exhibition Sections/Intersections. 25 Years of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao Collection will be the course’s starting point, offering multiple points of view and narratives, different from those that prevailed when the Collection was first put together.

OBJECTIVES

  • To offer an approach to contemporary art based on the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao Collection, which contains a wealth of manifestations and formal, aesthetic, ethical, and political possibilities, always expanding and rearranging themselves.
  • To follow some of the itineraries from the transition between modern art and the avant-garde in the early twentieth century to the present, making stops in most significant disruptions in the history of art in the 1960s.
  • To provide participants with the theoretical and practical tools required to enhance their aesthetic experiences and critical skills – theoretical trends, poetics, art practices, artists, and artworks.
