Among other works from the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum Collection, on the 3rd floor you can find Dance (1979), a performance that is an icon of contemporary video art, the result of the collaborative work of dancer and choreographer Lucinda Childs, composer Philip Glass, and artist Sol LeWitt. Dance was first shown at the Museum as part of the exhibition Sections/Intersections. 25 Years of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao Collection, together with Sol LeWitt’s Wall Drawing #831. Both works are currently on display.
In this talk, Lucinda Childs, a key figure in the contemporary dance scene, will engage in a conversation about Dance, a performance that is a milestone in the history of creativity in motion, with Lekha Hileman Waitoller, one of the Museum’s curators as well as the curator in charge of Sections/Intersections. The discussion will be followed by an adaptation of a solo performance from Dance, performed by Caitlin Scranton, from the Lucinda Childs Dance Company. After the performance, Childs and Hileman Waitoller will answer questions from the audience.
