If materials could talk…
If materials could talk…

Gallery 105

The Didaktika project for Sections/Intersections – the exhibition organized by the Museum to celebrate its 25th anniversary – is titled If Walls Could Talk, in both its on-site and its online versions. It will be introduced gradually, following the staggered opening of the exhibition chapters.

The exhibition begins at gallery 105 with chapter 1, Material Life, focusing on the essential elements. The online educational project for this chapter includes technical descriptions of selected works shown in the gallery, by Mona Hatoum, Jannis Kounellis, Asier Mendizabal, and Yoko Ono, sharing the keys to understand them while letting materials speak for themselves.

Artists choose the materials for their works on a variety of grounds. They may prefer natural to synthetic materials, or the other way around. Some focus on conceptual rather than physical aspects. Because of their characteristics, some of the works in the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum Collection are site-specific or require changes for their installation, thus interacting with the place hosting them. Here you will find four works that illustrate these ideas.
