Nora-Aurrekoetxea

Nora Aurrekoetxea Etxebarria foregrounds construction materials that are normally hidden and turns them into supports where she hangs and incrusts rings and braids of tin, bronze, and silver. In this work, the plasterboard panels are pierced and coupled with bare corrugated rods, elements that have mutual need of each other for support. By contrast, the rings and braids, archetypes that denote certain interpersonal relations in various cultures, function independently. The braided hair separated from the body and the ring without its finger lose corporeal presence and meaning, becoming new objects whose origin and history have to be guessed at.
