Learning Through Art 2002
06.04.2002 - 07.07.2002
The annual Learning Through Art exhibit features a selection of artworks created by 166 students between the ages of 6 and 12 who took part in the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao education program during the 2001–02 academic year.
The aim of this education program, founded at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York by Natalie Lieberman in 1970, is to reinforce school curriculum through art activities. Guest artists come to the classroom, working in close collaboration with the teachers. In 1998 the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao adapted the arts program to the needs and interests of public primary schools in the Basque Autonomous Community. Throughout the 2001–02 academic year the program was extended to a total of nine classrooms in nine schools in Álava, Gipuzkoa and Bizkaia.
