Louise Bourgeois. Structures of Existence: The Cells

• Occupying a space somewhere between a museal panorama, a theater set, an environment or installation, the Cells deal with memory and emotion, pain and anxiety, and, in particular, the fear of abandonment.
• In these unique architectural spaces, the artist composed found objects, garments,furniture, and distinctive sculptures into emotionally charged theatrical sets.
• For Bourgeois, the word “cell” had several connotations, referring to both the isolation of a prison or monastic cell and the biological cell of a living organism.
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is pleased to present Louise Bourgeois: Structures of Existence:
The Cells, an ample selection of the innovative, sophisticated sculptural works developed by Louise Bourgeois (1911–2010) over the course of two decades. In this exhibition, organized by Haus der Kunst, Munich, in collaboration with the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, visitors will be able to discover and experience 28 emotionally charged architectural spaces, each an individual microcosm separating the internal from the external world, by one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century. The exhibition in Bilbao was made possible by the remarkable sponsorship of Fundación BBVA.

If your request is approved, you must send a list of all team members before the day of the shooting.
The use of Museum images in videos and other audio-visual productions may be subject to a fee. Our Images Committee reviews every request individually. Since this may take three working days to two full weeks, we suggest you plan your video shooting ahead of time.

All images must be properly attributed, without being altered, cropped, or overwritten. Reproductions other than the aforementioned require approval in writing from the Museum.
