Beaches

Donostia-San Sebastián, Euskadi

The beaches of San Sebastian, which offer spectacular views of the city, are ideal for surfing, swimming or sailing. Thanks to good environmental management they have all had the EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) rating renewed. EMAS is the top quality certificate awarded by the European Union.

The 600-metre-long Ondarreta beach is linked to the city’s two other beaches (La Concha and La Zurriola) by a seven-kilometre seafront promenade that starts near the spectacular Comb of the Wind sculpture and ends in the city centre.

La Zurriola beach is located in the neighbourhood of Gros, next to the Kursaal Congress Centre and Auditorium. Surfing is very popular here, with big waves for enthusiasts to enjoy.

The incomparable beach of La Concha is one of the hallmarks of Donostia-San Sebastian. Located right in the heart of the city, it offers visitors magnificent views over the beautiful shell-shaped bay (‘Concha’ means ‘shell’ in Spanish) and the island of Santa Clara in the centre, flanked by mounts Urgull and Igeldo.
