Madrid’s Teatro Real is bringing the opera season to a close with its 10th Opera Week, staging La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi (1813–1883). Come and enjoy our free live stream of what many consider the opera par excellence—in fact, the most performed opera around the world.
La Traviata is an opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi, set to an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave based on La Dame aux camélias, a novel by Alexandre Dumas fils. It was first performed on March 6, 1853. The Teatro Real first brought it on stage two years later, on February 1.
This production at the Teatro Real, designed and directed by Willy Decker, features soprano Adela Zaharia (Violetta Valéry), tenor Xabier Anduaga (Alfredo Germont), and baritone Artur Ruciński (Giorgio Germont), leading the cast in charge of bringing the fascinating story to life. They will be accompanied by the resident choir and orchestra of the Teatro Real, conducted by Henrik Nánási.
