The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is paying tribute to Richard Serra with a piano recital by the renowned pianist Samson Tsoy. Both for the musician and the Museum, this concert—held on the Serra’s first birthday after his passing—is a touching homage to the artist and his oeuvre. The concert features pieces by Bach and Beethoven, and it will be followed by a presentation by musicologist Patricia Sojo as well as by a conversation with the pianist himself.

Born in Kazakhstan in 1988, Samson Tsoy performed at the presentation of Richard Serra’s Transmitter (2020) for Gagosian in Le Bourget, France, in 2021. He played Oliver Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time.

Lauded for originality and imagination, Tsoy has performed in venues and festivals around the world, including New York’s Carnegie Hall and London’s Wigmore Hall, and has curated his own Ragged Music Festival at Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam. He was also the first-ever classical musician to perform for the opening of the Munich Security Conference, in front of the world’s most important political leaders. Critics have hailed him as “brave” (New Statesman), describing his performances as “cosmic” (The Observer).

Tsoy is a frequent guest for performances and residencies at the world’s most famous festivals and venues, playing with international ensembles such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and the Munich Chamber Orchestra. His first solo album, Inmost Heart, will be released by Linn Records in February 2025.

Duration: 60 min.
Once the concert starts, late arrivals will not be allowed in.
