Third floor

In 1997, Jenny Holzer (1950) was asked to create a work for a space of her choice in the Museum. She chose gallery 101 (next to the Atrium), whose walls reflect the vertical texts from the LED signboards that make Installation for Bilbao. As in many of Holzer’s works, language plays a fundamental role in this installation.

In 2021, Holzer began to explore augmented reality as a new medium for her LED art. LIKE BEAUTY IN FLAMES can be accessed from the screens of mobile devices using a QR code and an app, merging tangible with virtual reality as its signboards fold, twist, and turn about in the Atrium. The work can be accessed anywhere in the building, but it has its starting point on the third floor, opposite Arno Pair, a set of two marble benches, also by Holzer.
