This project focused on individual and collective identity from the perspective of art. The activities were designed to promote values and skills such as emotional expression, self-knowledge, empathy, team work, and critical thinking, while strengthening the students’ sense of belonging.

Along the way, the students analyzed what made them unique and what bound them together, thinking about their personal history and their ties to their school. They discussed the ways they perceived themselves and their connections to the community. They also looked for symbols of identity in their surroundings—coats of arms, football shirts, and others—, analyzing the values they were associated with.

In teams, the children drew silhouettes of their bodies on cardboard, filling them with pictures, colors, and words they felt showed their personality. They also designed and painted their own group shirts—a symbol of their shared identity and the result of the construction of a collective representation that subsumed their singularities.

The methodology used was based on group dynamics and open dialogue, encouraging active participation. The project culminated in a presentation of the works for the school community, in which the students discussed their creative process.
