Steve McQueen

The artist, filmmaker and screenwriter Steve M^cQueen (b. 1969), based in London and Amsterdam, explores personal and collective themes through moving images. Recognized for his ability to distil complex emotions into precise and minimalist narratives, M^cQueen has stated that he wants to "put the public in a situation where everyone becomes acutely sensitive to themselves, to their body and respiration." The physical conditions of vision—the scale of projection, sound, light, and the relationship between the viewer and the space—are as fundamental to his work as the environment itself, giving his practice a distinctly sculptural quality.
