Paseo Abandoibarra, Bilbao

Abando

Bilbao

This new avenue along the banks of the river Nervión has become an open-air leisure area with a cosmopolitan atmosphere about it.

It starts from the Paseo del Arenal in the Old Quarter and runs along the river towards the City Hall. If you continue walking along Campo Volantín you reach Santiago Calatrava’s Zubizuri bridge. Cross it and you find yourself in the Paseo de Uribitarte, which gradually leads you to the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum and Abandoibarra, an emblematic example of the urban regeneration of Bilbao.

A new footbridge over the river links this area to the prestigious Deusto University.

The promenade continues as far as the Museum of Fine Arts (the third most important in Spain), located in the Parque de Doña Casilda Iturrizar. After crossing the park you arrive at the Euskalduna Congress Centre and Auditorium, very close to the Maritime Museum (beneath the Euskalduna bridge) and the gardens of the Casa de la Misericordia.
