Since 2022, the Museum has been making comprehensive assessments of the carbon footprint of every exhibition, including logistics and museography. In 2024, the Museum’s print was 2137.88 tons of CO2—reducing the carbon footprint by 17% vis-à-vis 2023 and by 31% when compared to 2019.

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is one of the first museums globally to measure its carbon footprint.

Moreover, we are planning to measure both direct and indirect emissions for the entire museum operation, including events, public programs, culinary facilities, and The Store/Bookstore in 2026.
